Dubrovnik & Dalmatian Islands photography trip: Aug 19-26

Combine your passion with your vacation! Join us in August (19 to 26) for a 1 week photography trip on a sailing yacht, to discover the incredible Dubrovnik and Dalmatian islands while you improve your skills with a professional instructor. We will visit the well preserved ancient towns of Dubrovnik & Korcula and impeccable natural landscapes in the background.

Our tutor will focus on encouraging you to explore your creative side, ensuring you return home with a really striking portfolio of images. Using landscapes, portraits and colour as inspiration, the focus will be on looking and getting the most out of your camera (and eyes), rather than covering ‘the basics’. However, for those who want it, a refresher workshop on exposure will be available.

The participants will be selected from the applications to ensure a diverse and homogenous group. Everyday is organized in big strokes, but we will have the flexibility to spend more time in specific places as we go. You won’t need to worry about a thing, allowing you to focus on having fun, relaxing and being creative.

Want to get to grips with the basics before the holiday?

Limited Offer: Book this trip and save 20% on an Intensive Beginners course at a date of your choice!

We have built this itinerary to see the most interesting locations in the area within one week, without spending too much time on the boat. We expect to have perfect weather during the trip – however in case of unusual conditions, we might make changes with the group’s agreement.

Day 1 Saturday – Dubrovnik

Arrival in Dubrovnik Airport in the afternoon and transfer to the Marina for check in to the yacht. Free time after check-in to discover the magnificent medieval walled city at sunset. Welcome dinner at a restaurant in the old city followed by a good night’s sleep our yacht.

Day 2 Sunday – Dubrovnik to Sipan

Head over to Dubrovnik in the morning for a three hour Game-of-Thrones walking tour through the city. Come back to the boat in the afternoon and set sail towards Sipanska Luka, the largest village on the heavily forested and unspoilt Sipan island. Sipan is famous for its wine and for its delightfully laid-back ambiance. Lie here at anchor for the night and taste the local delicacies.

Day 3 Monday – Sipan to Polace (Miljet Island)

After a morning dip, set sail towards Miljet Island in the morning and arrive early in the afternoon. Leave our yacht at anchor and head out to explore the two saltwater lakes of the National Park on land. It’s about a forty five minute walk over to the lakes with fantastic photo shooting opportunities.

Day 4 Tuesday – Polace to Lastovo Island

Depart Polace in the morning for Lastovo, a nature park washed by the cleanest seas in the Med offering snorkeling opportunities. The island is covered in thick forests and the coastline is very picturesque. Lie here at anchor for the night.

Day 5 Wednesday – Lastovo Island to Korcula Town

Leave Lastovo island in the morning and set sail towards Korčula Town, which is a gorgeous walled town with narrow streets, old buildings, monuments, walls, towers, cafes, restaurants and bars. Its marble streets and impressive architecture is a feast for the eyes & your camera.

Day 6 Thursday – Korcula to Sobra (Miljet Island)

Departure from Korcula Town in the morning and heading to Sobra on Miljet Island. Sobra is a small bay on the island that is used as fishing harbour. Moor in the bay and enjoy the delicacies offered by local restaurants.

Day 7 Friday – Sobra to Dubrovnik

Reach Dubrovnik marina in the afternoon and head over to the Lokrum Island nearby. This fascinating island, which lies close to the mainland, is believed to have hosted Richard the Lionheart after his ship was wrecked when he was returning from the Crusades. Goodbye dinner in Old Town.

Day 8 Saturday – Dubrovnik

Check out from the boat on 9am. Free time in the city. Head to the airport for the flight back home.

We will stay on the yacht during the full trip. Our modern sailing yacht will have 3 or 4 cabins depending on the size of the crew and you will share a cabin with another participant. You are also welcome to book the trip together with a friend/partner.

Our skipper is a Yachtmaster and has been sailing the mediterranean for many years.

Requirements to join & duties on board: Former sailing experience is very welcome but not necessary. Enthusiasm for photography, interest for sailing, a positive mood and willingness to help with a few things on board would be enough. We will jointly take care of tasks on board such as cooking, washing dishes etc. on a rotational / voluntary basis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any requirements to join?2020-02-08T16:47:41+01:00

No. The application is open to everybody who have the passion for photography and learning. This trip is for beginners as well as for pros because we believe that we all have different talents and we can all learn from each other. Even though, a basic knowledge of photography is highly recommended.

What happens after my application?2020-02-08T16:49:03+01:00

Once we receive your payment, we will get back to you with a short survey or a call to get to know your preferences for language and accommodation. As the trip gets closer, we will keep in touch with you again to confirm the trip, introduce the instructors, update you on the progress and communicate the full program.

Shared Room: Can I upgrade to private room later or at the trip?2019-08-29T15:18:29+02:00

If you decide to upgrade to private room, the conditions depend on the timing of your decision, pending of course on the availability.

Before the trip: Possible by paying the price difference at the time of your decision (e.g. if you bought an early bird ticket but decided to upgrade during normal prices, you pay the difference at normal prices).

After the trip has started: If you decide to upgrade during check-in, if there is room available, you will have to pay the price difference plus 20% of your original payment as penalty.

Shared room: Can I select who I will stay with?2020-02-08T16:59:03+01:00

For shared rooms, we strongly recommend that you book with somebody you already know and are comfortable to share the room with.

If you book a shared room alone, that means you accept to share your room with any other participant regardless of gender or age.

With individual booking of a shared room, your booking can only be confirmed if there is another individual shared room reservation with us. Otherwise, depending on the time and availability, you have the option to upgrade to a private room reservation.

Will there be other people?2020-02-08T17:06:29+01:00

No. This trip will be organized by and for Swiss Photo Club only.
